sabbatical -- great concept

The term "sabbatical" came to me spontaneously when I was explaining to my principal (and currently, only) market research client that I was taking a break from the business for at least a year. He told me that he was happy for me personally, but that he felt a great sense of loss of a good business partner. I thanked him on the phone, and also sent this follow-up note. It brings about a nice closure to this professional chapter in my life.
Dear M___,

I wanted to thank you for expressing your support of my decision to take a sabbatical from market research. It has been a bittersweet decision for me to turn away from one viable career path in favour of pursuing something else entirely. However, I'm quite excited about the new opportunities that lay ahead for me in fiction writing and music.

I'd also like you to know that I appreciate the partnership you and I have developed. I've very much enjoyed playing a bridging role between your marketing vision and its technical execution. In the hopes of finding another person even more qualified statistically for that role, I've already posted a request for referrals to the online market research discussion forum I described to you earlier. I've already received the first responses to my query, and they include at least one of the gentlemen I'd hoped to hear from.

I'll keep you apprised of my results and, at your leisure, facilitate introductions to a potential replacement for my services. Thanks again for your support.

Warmest regards,
